The Directive 2002/95/CE - RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances)

Jointly with the WEEE directive, European Community have created a directive concerning the reduction of hazardous substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipments (EEE).These substances are potentially dangerous for the Environment and for Human health if at end of life, the EEE is not handle according to the WEEE directive. The RoHS directive takes effect from the 1st of July 2006.

Six substances are concerned :Lead, Mercury, Cadmium Chrome VI, PBBs (PolyBromoBiphényls) and PBDEs (PolyBromoDiphényls Ethers)

For those substances, the european community have decided of a threshold of concentration of 1000 PPM (0,1 % by weight), with exception for Cadmium, which is limited at 100 PPM (0,01% by weight). The substances must not be present in concentrations higher than these thresholds in each homogenous material.
