SAGEMCOM, EUROPEAN LEADER IN SMART METERING, HAS BEEN SELECTED BY THE REPUBLIC OF DJIBOUTI FOR THE MODERNIZATION OF ITS ELECTRICAL GRID BY DEPLOYING A PLC PRIME SOLUTION.

The experimentation consists in commissioning 3500 smart meters in the city of Djibouti before extending the roll out to more than 41 000 delivery points. Sagemcom has been selected to implement its turn-key OFDM PLC PRIME solution including meters (single and three-phase), data concentrators and management platform complemented and the central data management software – MDM – meter data management.

Thanks to its smart metering solution, Sagemcom provides substantial benefits to its customer by improving efficiency of its grid while making savings. Indeed, in this experimental context, Sagemcom will be using PLC technology on the medium voltage infrastructure to carry the load data from the data concentrator to the substation without using the GSM/GPRS radio network of telecom operators.

Initiated in 2005, Djibouti’s project of development and access to diversification in the energy sector aims at increasing population’s access to energy and improving distribution service through new communicating meters installation and the electric lines restoration.

In partnership with the World Bank, the authorities of Djibouti have opted for a smart electric grid allowing to Electricté de Djibouti and its clients a streamlined access to distribution, an efficient management of commercialization, and easy new sources of supply integration.

With its new two-way communication system, Electricté de Djibouti now benefits from a powerful system to optimize its electrical grid and to manage is subscribers.

Through this new collaboration, Sagemcom strengthens its position as a leader in smart metering by demonstrating its capacity to adapt once again its solutions to the specific needs of its customers’ grids.
